Saints defeat Falcons 3-1

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The Montevallo men's soccer team traveled to St. Augustine on Saturday to take on Peach Belt powerhouse Flagler. The Falcons gave the Saints all they could handle, jumping out to a quick lead, but the Saints were ultimately able to prevail 3-1.

Freshman forward Jeffrey Hessenberger continued his explosive first season. Less than ten minutes into the game, Hessenberger took a pass from fellow offensive threat Bruno Mbamala, drove left, and beat the keeper to the left side. This goal was Hessenberger's fourth of the year.

Just a few minutes before halftime, the score would be evened up when the ball deflected into the back of the Montevallo net on an own goal. The score at halftime was 1-1.

The Saints wasted no time in the second half and took the 2-1 lead at 46:06 when Marco Warren blasted a long goal that would prove to be the winning tally of this contest.

At 86:51, Flagler tacked on one more goal as Warren was again able to score on Montevallo. Warren's second goal of the game was assisted by Zach Shanahan.

The men's soccer team will be on the road again this Wednesday, when they will take on Georgia Southwestern in another Peach Belt Conference contest.
