MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo volleyball team clinched a regular season sweep of GRU Augusta following a 3-1 win over the visiting Jaguars in a Peach Belt Conference contest Oct. 18 at Trustmark Arena.
The Falcons took the first two sets 25-17 and 25-18 before dropping the third set 25-15. Montevallo stormed back with a 25-17 win in the fourth set to clinch the match.
Sophomore Rebekah Phelps led Montevallo (14-6 overall, 7-3 in Peach Belt Conference) with 15 kills in the victory.
Senior Manyi Ati added 14 kills, while fellow senior Michelle Carle contributed 10 kills. Junior Katie Best chipped in six kills.
Senior Kaleigh Harvey led the Falcons with 18 digs in the win. Sophomore Anna Quinn added 13 digs. Ati fell just short of a double-double after registering nine digs.
Sophomore Briana Marquez led Montevallo with 35 assists, while freshman Hannah Christie contributed 12 assists.
The Falcons posted a .426 attack percentage in the opening set as they coasted to a 25-17 win in the frame. Phelps recorded four kills down the stretch as Montevallo closed the set with a 8-2 run.
The Falcons closed out a 25-18 win in the second set with a 8-1 run, fueled by a pair of kills by Phelps and a kill each by Ati and Best.
After the Jaguars took the third set 25-15, Montevallo closed out the match with a 25-17 win in the fourth set. Quinn capped the victory with a kill for the Falcons' final point.
The Falcons return to action Saturday, Oct. 19 with a Peach Belt Conference match against Georgia College.
