MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Heading into their match with the Georgia College Bobcats on Saturday, the Montevallo women's soccer team had won their last two conference matches, making a strong push for the Peach Belt Conference Tournament.
The Bobcats opened the scoring for the day at 12:21 when Liz Franco put the Falcons in a quick 1-0 hole.
Montevallo would not trail for long. A little over a minute later, freshman Michaela Graber evened up the contest with the fourth goal of her first year. Senior Paige Scott extended her team lead in points with the assist.
Towards the end of the first half, the Falcons accidentally put the ball in their own net for an own goal and a 2-1 Bobcat lead after the first 45 minutes.
In the second half, Montevallo wasted no time making up for the mistake and were able to battle back and tie the game less than five minutes after the teams took the field. This time, Julie Heltne was able to score her first goal of the year to even the score at two.
No more goals would be scored in the second half, and the two teams went to overtime. However, neither team was able to score during the overtime session, and the game ended in a 2-2 tie.
Montevallo will continue Peach Belt play Wednesday, Oct. 30. They will travel east to Columbus, Ga. to take on the Cougars at 5 p.m.
