MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo men's soccer team was able to put another tally in the win column on Wednesday night, as they defeated the University of North Georgia by the score of 3-1.
The Falcons wasted no time putting their first goal on the board. Less than ten minutes into the game, Alex Morton was able to get ahold of a loose ball following a free kick and record his third goal of the year.
Montevallo was able to extend their lead at 25:30, when Bruno Mbamala was on the receiving end of a beautiful Thomas Davis ball. Mbamala was able to capitalize on the opportunity, and he gave Montevallo the 2-0 lead with his third goal of the season.
Just as it looked like the Falcons would have a two goal lead at halftime, the Nighthawks were awarded a penalty kick at 43:57. Daniel Bowlt buried the kick in the bottom left corner to cut the Falcon lead in half as the two teams went to halftime.
Montevallo was again able to get their lead back to two at 76:34. Gary O'Neill took a pass from fellow senior Ricky Davey and converted the opportunity into a Montevallo goal. O'Neill's second goal of the season put North Georgia in a 3-1 hole that they would be unable to climb out of.
The Falcons had pressure all night, recording 16 shots, compared to the Nighthawks' nine. Montevallo was also awarded eight corner kicks, while the Nighthawks only had two.
The men's soccer team will be on the road this Saturday, when they travel to St. Augustine to take on the Flagler Saints.
