MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The Montevallo women's soccer team suffered another hard loss on Wednesday night, as they fell to Peach Belt Conference foe North Georgia by the score of 3-0.
The first few minutes of the contest were fairly even, but the momentum of the game swung sharply at 10:12 when Sydney Reeder was able to put the ball in the top left corner on a free kick and give the Nighthawks a 1-0 lead. Both teams battled hard the rest of the first half, but no more goals were put on the board during the first 45 minutes.
In the second half, North Georgia came out firing. They had sustained pressure and multiple opportunities, but Montevallo goalkeeper Taylor Kerr was able to thwart all attempts. However, at 74:02, the Nighthawks broke through and extended their lead to two goals when Kayla Croom was able to tap it over Kerr for the goal.
North Georgia tacked on their third goal with less than a minute remaining, as leading scorer Kelly Penston took advantage of a well-placed cross from Cicily Teliafarro for her 11th goal of the year.
The women's soccer team will be on the road this Saturday, when they travel to St. Augustine to take on the Flagler Saints.
