EVANS, Ga. – The past four years, the University of Montevallo men's soccer team has made it to the final game of the Peach Belt Conference Tournament. On Sunday, they were able to bring home their third championship in those four years with a 2-0 win over Francis Marion.

After a back and forth beginning of the game, Montevallo started to take control of the contest midway through the first half. The Falcons were able to get on the board at 26:50 when leading scorer and First Team All-Conference selection Ricky Davey scored his eighth goal of the year. Jeffrey Hessenberger got the assist on a corner kick.

Montevallo would lead 1-0 at halftime, holding a ten to six advantage in shots and a six to two advantage in corner kicks.

In the second half, the Falcons continued to dominate the match. Less than ten minutes into the second half, they were able to double their lead on the Patriots when Bruno Mbamala was able to put the ball in the back of the net. Hessenberger again got the assist on the tally, as he was able to cut through the defense and generate the scoring opportunity.

Hessenberger recorded four assists during the Peach Belt Conference Tournament, and all goals in the semi-finals and finals were assisted by the standout freshman.

Francis Marion would be unable to ever really come close to cutting into the Montevallo lead and only had two shots in the second half.

In all, the Falcons outshot the Patriots 16 to eight and had ten corner kicks, while the Patriots only had three.

Hessenberger, Gary O'Neill, and Nick Saboe were named to the All-Tournament team, and Davey was named the tournament's MVP.

Appropriately, standout goalkeeper Brendan Ledgeway recorded a shutout in the match.
