FLORENCE, S.C. – The University of Montevallo volleyball team fell to Francis Marion University 3-1 in a Peach Belt Conference match Nov. 15.
The Falcons, who entered the match ranked No. 9 in the latest NCAA Division II Southeast Region rankings, dropped the first two sets against the Patriots 25-18 and 25-17. Montevallo rallied to defeat Francis Marion 25-16 in the third set before falling 26-24 in a hard-fought fourth set.
Senior Michelle Carle led the Falcons (18-10 overall, 10-7 in Peach Belt Conference) with 10 kills, which leaves her just five kills shy of 1,000 career kills.
Fellow senior Manyi Ati added nine kills to go along with 12 digs. Sophomore Anna Quinn contributed eight kills and 10 digs, while junior Katie Best and sophomore Rebekah Phelps finished with six kills each.
Senior Kaleigh Harvey led Montevallo with 24 digs. Freshman Hannah Christie contributed a team-high 25 assists.
Montevallo returns to action Saturday, Nov. 16 as the Falcons wrap up the regular season with a trip to Pembroke, N.C., to face UNC Pembroke in their final Peach Belt Conference match.
First serve is set for 11 a.m.
The Falcons have already clinched a berth in the Peach Belt Conference tournament, which will be held Nov. 22-24 on the campus of Francis Marion University in Florence, S.C.
