PEMBROKE, N.C. – University of Montevallo senior Michelle Carle recorded her 1,000th career kill as she led the Falcons to a 3-0 sweep of UNC Pembroke in the Falcons' final regular season contest Nov. 16.
Carle provided nine kills in the match for the Falcons, who close out the regular season with an overall record of 19-10 and a 11-7 mark in Peach Belt Conference play.
Sophomore Rebekah Phelps led Montevallo with 11 kills. Senior Manyi Ati recorded her 12th double-double of the season with 10 kills and 12 digs.
Sophomore Anna Quinn contributed seven kills, while junior Katie Best finished with five kills.
Senior Kaleigh Harvey led the Falcons with 25 digs. Sophomore Briana Marquez contributed a team-high 35 assists to go along with nine digs.
Montevallo closed the first set with a 5-1 run, which included a go-ahead kill by Ati, to take a 25-21 win over the Braves in the opening set.
The Falcons rallied from a 19-15 deficit in the second set to clinch a 25-21 win in the frame. Phelps sparked a 10-2 run to end the set with three kills.
Montevallo raced out to a 19-9 lead in the third set following a kill by Carle and held off the Braves down the stretch to close out the victory with a 25-17 win in the final set.
The Falcons will take on an opponent to be determined in the quarterfinal round of the Peach Belt Conference tournament Friday, Nov. 22 on the campus of Francis Marion University in Florence, S.C.
The Peach Belt Conference tournament bracket will be released later this evening.
