Falcons suffer close loss to PBC champions

YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The final game of the regular season for the University of Montevallo men's soccer team took place on Saturday. The men traveled to Young Harris to take on the Mountain Lions, who won the Peach Belt Conference regular season title. Montevallo hung in with Young Harris all afternoon, but were unable to come away with a victory. In the end, the Mountain Lions defeated the Falcons 3-2.

Young Harris' prolific offense struck early in the match. Ilija Ilick, the leading scorer for the Mountain Lions, recorded his 17th goal of the year at 22:49. Nail McCabe recorded his 16th assist of the year on the tally, which extended his team lead in assists.

The Mountain Lions added to their lead at 35:48. Khurram Shazad got on the board with his seventh goal of the year, putting the Falcons in a 2-0 hole.

Montevallo, however, would be able to cut the deficit in half, just minutes before the teams broke for halftime. Remy Moulard recorded his first goal of the year, sending the Falcons to the half down only one goal.

Almost 30 minutes went by in the second half without any goals, but that all changed at 74:32. Steven Didik was able to even the contest with his third goal of the year and second in two games.

The game, though, would not be tied for long. McCabe again put his name on the score sheet, but this time, he was the one who scored the goal. McCabe's third point of the game came at 79:39 and gave Young Harris a 3-2 lead. This would prove to be the final score of the game.

The next stop for the University of Montevallo Falcons will be the Peach Belt Conference Tournament. The schedule and matchups for the tournament will be announced later this evening.
