ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The University of Montevallo volleyball team fell on the road at Flagler College 3-1 in a Peach Belt Conference contest Nov. 2.

The Falcons dropped the opening set 25-19 before defeating the Saints 25-18 in the second set. Flagler closed out the match with a 25-17 win in the third set and a 25-18 win in the fourth set.

Senior Michelle Carle and junior Katie Best led Montevallo (15-9 overall, 8-6 in Peach Belt Conference) with nine kills each in the match.

Senior Manyi Ati added eight kills and a team-high six blocks to go along with nine digs.

Sophomore Briana Marquez recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 12 digs to go along with a team-high 29 assists.

Senior Kaleigh Harvey led the Falcons with 30 digs in the match. Sophomore Anna Quinn contributed 14 digs.

The Falcons dropped the first set against the Saints, 25-19. Montevallo tied the set at 17-17 following a kill by Phelps before Flagler closed the set with a 8-2 run down the stretch.

Montevallo responded with a 25-18 win in the second set. Marquez registered a kill to give the Falcons a 14-7 lead midway through the set. Best capped the set with a kill to help Montevallo even the match score at 1-1.

Carle recorded a kill early in the third set to give the Falcons a 7-4 lead, but the Saints responded with a 18-2 run and held off Montevallo late in the frame to clinch a 25-17 win in the set.

The Falcons kept the margin close early in the fourth set and Carle recorded a kill to help the Falcons trim the deficit to 19-16, but the Saints responded with a 6-2 run down the stretch to close out a 25-18 win in the set.

The Falcons return to action Friday, Nov. 8 with a home match against Peach Belt Conference foe USC Aiken.

First serve at Trustmark Arena is set for 6 p.m.
