MONTEVALLO, Ala. – University of Montevallo junior Troran Brown recorded the first triple-double in the Falcons' NCAA Division II era in a 95-69 win over visiting Carver Bible College in a non-conference game Nov. 23 at Trustmark Arena.
Brown scored a game-high 19 points and dished out a game-high 11 assists while grabbing a career-best 10 rebounds in the victory. The 6-foot-2 guard from Phoenix, Ariz., finished 6-of-13 from the floor, including 2-of-5 from beyond the arc, while knocking down 5-of-6 free throws.
Montevallo (4-0) shot 51 percent from the floor in the victory, including 52 percent from beyond the arc, while outrebounding the Cougars 54-31. Eleven of the 12 players who played in the game finished with at least four points in the win.
Senior Orlando Brazier, junior Darius Stowers and sophomore Kimani Key added 11 points each in the win. Brazier grabbed eight rebounds, while Stowers dished out four assists.
Juniors Ed'Lexus Collier and Shykeem Jackson added nine points and eight points, respectively. Senior Silas Mills and junior Larry Slaughter chipped in six points each, while junior Da-Juan Cooper and sophomore Cam Wiehe contributed five points each. Sophomore Broderick Day finished with four points in the victory.
The Falcons quickly jumped out to a double-digit lead, with a jumper by Collier giving Montevallo a 19-8 advantage with 12:15 remaining in the opening half.
Montevallo extended its lead to as many as 24 points in the first half, with a 3-pointer by Jackson giving the Falcons a 47-23 lead in the final minute of the half. Montevallo carried a 47-25 lead into the locker room at halftime.
Carver Bible trimmed the Falcons' lead to 47-32 following a layup by Julian Bratton with 18:41 remaining in the game, but the Cougars couldn't get any closer down the stretch.
The Falcons took their largest lead in the game, 93-64, following a 3-pointer by Wiehe with 45 seconds left.
Montevallo will return to action Wednesday, Nov. 27 with a trip to Livingston, Ala., to face the University of West Alabama in a non-conference game. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
The Falcons return to action at Trustmark Arena on Tuesday, Dec. 3 against Stillman College.
