BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's basketball team fell on the road at Samford University 70-40 in an exhibition game Nov. 4.

Taylor Beverly led the Falcons with 19 points on 7-of-18 shooting from the floor and grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

Sophomore Jacquelyn Thompson added 10 points. Sophomore Jasmine Thomas added four points, while junior Kaylin Foreman and freshman Shelby Williams added three points each.

Montevallo jumped out to an early lead, grabbing a 7-2 advantage with 17:26 to go in the first half after a free throw by Thompson. Samford then went on a 10-2 run to take a 12-9 lead with 11:08 left in the first half following a jumper by Rebecca Webster.

Samford stretched its lead out to nine points at 23-14 with 2:50 to go in the opening period. After a Montevallo free throw cut the lead to eight at 23-15, Samford scored the final five points of the half to take a 28-15 advantage into halftime.

Early in the second half, Montevallo fought back to cut the lead to nine points at 32-23 with 17:23 left in the game after a three-pointer by Thompson. Samford, however, went on a 14-3 run to push its lead out to 20 points at 46-26 with 13:02 left after a layup by Amara Mayers.

With Samford leading, 54-33, the Bulldogs went on a 13-2 run to push its lead out to 32 points at 67-35 with 5:15 left after a three-pointer by Kassidy Blevins. Samford finished the game with a 30-point victory, winning by a score of 70-40.

The Falcons open the regular season Wednesday, Nov. 13 with a trip to Rome, Ga. to take on Shorter University. Tip off is set for 5 p.m.

Montevallo will face UAH in its home opener Saturday, Nov. 16 at Trustmark Arena. Tip off is set for 1:30 p.m.
