MONTEVALLO, Ala. – University of Montevallo junior Troran Brown scored 30 points and dished out 10 assists to lead the Falcons to a 82-67 win over visiting University of West Florida in their home opener Nov. 9 at Trustmark Arena.
Brown finished 11-of-20 from the floor, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc in the victory. Brown drained all four of his attempts at the charity stripe.
Junior Ed'Lexus Collier added 11 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor, including 1-of-1 from beyond the arc. Junior Da-Juan Cooper and Larry Slaughter added nine points each. Slaughter and senior Orlando Brazier, who finished with eight points, led the Falcons with 11 rebounds each.
Junior Silas Mills finished with eight points and five boards, while junior Shykeem Jackson contributed seven points, five rebounds and a team-high 12 assists.
West Florida opened the game with a 15-8 run before the Falcons responded with a 16-3 run, capped with a layup by Mills and a free throw by Cooper, to give Montevallo a 24-18 lead.
The Argonauts trimmed the lead to 36-33 heading into the locker room at halftime.
Montevallo extended its lead to 43-35 early in the second half following a dunk by Brown. West Florida cut the lead to 43-41 with 15:46 remaining in the game before the Falcons went on a 24-5 run to take 67-46 lead following a layup by Slaughter with 7:58 remaining.
The Falcons eventually led by as many as 23 points, 78-55, following a dunk by Brown with 3:33 left in the game.
Montevallo will return to action Friday, Nov. 15 with a home game against the University of West Alabama.
Tip-off at Trustmark Arena is set for 7 p.m.
