ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – University of Montevallo junior Taylor Beverly led the Falcons with 22 points in a 95-70 loss on the road at Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference contest Dec. 21.
Beverly, the leading scorer in the conference, has scored in double figures in each game this season for the Falcons, who fell to 3-7 overall and 0-3 in conference play.
Beverly, who finished 10-of-20 from the floor and 2-of-6 at the charity stripe, also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Senior Shay Bonner and junior Kaylin Foreman, who finished 5-of-8 from the floor, added 10 points and six rebounds each. Sophomore Katie Colson contributed nine points on 3-of-4 shooting from the floor and a 3-of-3 performance at the free-throw line.
Freshman Ellie Mouyal chipped in seven points, sophomore Jerrisa Green finished with four points and freshman Shelby Williams added two points.
The Saints opened the game with a 6-0 run following a pair of 3-pointers from Shelbi Lindsey and Williesha Spencer.
The Saints doubled up the Falcons, 28-14, following a jumper by Spencer with 7:04 left in the first half before extending their lead to as many as 20 points late in the half. Flagler carried a 44-28 lead into the locker room at halftime after shooting 62.5 percent (5-of-8) from beyond the arc in the opening half.
The Falcons cut the deficit to 70-56 following a layup by Beverly with 8:55 remaining in the game, but Montevallo couldn't cut the Saints' lead to single digits down the stretch.
The Saints pushed their lead to as many as 28 points late in the game following a jumper by Passhayla Williams with just under one minute remaining, which gave Flagler a 95-67 advantage.
The Falcons will return to action Saturday, Jan. 4 with another conference contest at home against Lander University.
Tip-off at Trustmark Arena is set for 1:30 p.m.
