MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo volleyball team fell to undefeated Armstrong Atlantic State University 3-1 in Peach Belt Conference action Sept. 28 at Trustmark Arena.
The 25-23, 21-25, 21-25, 14-25 setback against the Pirates snapped the Falcons' seven-match winning streak.
Senior Manyi Ati led Montevallo (10-3 overall, 3-2 in Peach Belt Conference) with 14 kills. Ati also finished with eight digs.
Fellow senior Michelle Carle added 10 kills, while sophomore Rebekah Phelps chipped in nine kills.
Senior Kaleigh Harvey led the Falcons with 26 digs in the contest. Sophomore Briana Marquez contributed a team-high 23 assists, while freshman Hannah Christie added 17 assists.
Junior Katie Best, Ati and Carle recorded kills late in the opening set to help the Falcons clinch a 25-23 win in the frame.
The Falcons battled down the stretch in the second and third sets, dropping each by a similar score of 25-21, before the Pirates clinched the match with a 25-14 win in the fourth set.
Montevallo returns to action Friday, Oct. 4 with a trip to Greenwood, S.C. to face Lander University in a Peach Belt Conference contest.
