FLORENCE, S.C. - The Montevallo men's soccer team got back to their winning ways on Sunday, when they visited Francis Marion and defeated their Peach Belt Conference foe by the score of 2-1.
Montevallo struck first, when Alex Morton recorded his second goal of the year at 18:03. Morton took a pass from Jeffrey Hessenberger, turned, and put the ball in the back of the net.
Francis Marion wasted no time responding, though. Johan Naglestad evened the score at one just one minute and three seconds after Morton scored the first goal of the contest. The game would stay tied for the rest of the first half.
The game's winning goal was scored at 65:26, as Hessenberger continued to make a large impact in his first season. The freshman was able to convert on a rebound opportunity.
Montevallo's win on Sunday afternoon snapped their four game skid and was their first win in the Peach Belt Conference. Montevallo is now 3-4 on the season and 1-1 in the PBC.
The Falcons had 11 shots, while the Patriots had 12. The Patriots were called for offsides six times in the game.
It will be a quick turnaround for Montevallo, as they will be back in action this Wednesday, Oct. 2nd, when Clayton State comes to Varsity Field. This match will immediately follow the women's contest and has an approximate start time of 6:30 p.m.
