Falcons falter in battle of top 25 teams

MONTEVALLO, Ala. - Two nationally ranked Peach Belt powerhouses squared off Saturday afternoon at Trustmark Arena. Unfortunately for the University of Montevallo men's basketball team, the USC Aiken Pacers were able to earn a victory on the road, winning by the final score of 78-63.

The Pacers (12-2, 4-0) never relinquished control in the game, making the very first basket of the contest and never looking back.

A running buzzer beater before halftime by Troran Brown made the Montevallo deficit only seven as the teams went to the locker room, but this would be as close as the Falcons would ever get to the Pacers.

USC Aiken went on an 11-0 run to open up the second half and were able to coast to the victory from there.

The Pacer attack was spearheaded by their ability to shoot. For the game, they shot 46.6% from the field and 50% from beyond the arc.

Conversely, Montevallo struggled from the field, shooting 34% from the field and missing all eight of their three-point attempts.

The Falcons were again paced by Brown. Brown was easily the leading scorer for the Falcons, scoring more than half of the team's total points. Brown played all 40 minutes, scored 33 points, and shot 56.2% from the field. He also made 15 of his 17 free throws.

Senior Orlando Brazier had a double-double in the game, with 13 points and 13 rebounds. This was the second consecutive game in which Brazier recorded a double-double.

Montevallo (11-2, 4-2) will look to bounce back this Wednesday when they welcome Georgia Southwestern to Trustmark Arena. This will be another tough matchup for the Falcons, as the Hurricanes are currently ranked 18th in Division II.

Tip-off for this game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
