SAVANNAH, Ga. – The University of Montevallo men's basketball team won their fourth straight game Saturday afternoon against Armstrong. The Falcons shot over 50% from the field on their way to a commanding 82-71 victory.
The very first points of the game were scored by the Pirates, as Eric Eversley hit a three-pointer in the opening minute, but the lead would be short lived. The Falcons scored the next ten points and never looked back.
Montevallo held a substantial lead the rest of the first half and when the first 20 minutes ended, they held a 39-28 advantage over Armstrong.
The second half was more of the same, and the Pirates were never able to cut the Falcon lead to less than six. When the final horn sounded, Montevallo had secured an 82-71 victory for their eighth conference win of the year.
It was a total team effort by the Falcons, who had nine players score. Leading the way was Orlando Brazier, who scored 20 points and recorded four blocks.
Shykeem Jackson was the second leading scorer with 15 points. Jackson made three of his four three-point attempts. He came into the game ranking fourth in the Peach Belt in made three-pointers.
Silas Mills led the team with eight rebounds. The senior also chipped in seven points in 18 quality minutes off the bench.
The defensive effort was key for Montevallo. Armstrong was held to a shooting percentage of just 38.4%.
After a three game road trip, the Falcons will return to Trustmark Arena this Thursday, Jan. 30. They will take on the Young Harris Mountain Lions in a Peach Belt Conference clash.
Tip-off for this game is set for 7:30 p.m.
