Montevallo falls to defending PBC Champs, 1-0

MORROW, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women's soccer team was in search of their first win of the year Wednesday night when they traveled to the campus of Clayton State University to take on the defending Peach Belt Conference Champion Lakers. It was a battle the whole way, but the Lakers were able to earn the home win, 1-0.

It was a scoreless first half, with solid rushes on each side. Montevallo earned the lone corner kick of the opening frame.

In the second half, the Lakers were eventually able to break through and put a goal on the board. At 70:29, Melissa Hetherington scored for Clayton State off a ball by Lucy Cunningham.

As time wound down, Montevallo had a few looks to even it up, but could not put one past last year's Peach Belt Conference Second Team All-Conference goalkeeper, Charlotte McCormack.

It was a tightly contested game, as the Montevallo defense held Clayton State to their fewest number of goals on the year.

The Falcons (0-5) are back home this Saturday, October 4. Lander University will make their way to Varsity Field for a 1 p.m. start.
