ATLANTA, Ga. – The University of Montevallo volleyball team split a pair of matches in a tri-match Oct. 1 at Clark Atlanta University.
The Falcons defeated host Clark Atlanta 3-0 after sweeping the Panthers 25-7, 25-16, 25-13.
Montevallo fell to GRU Augusta 3-2 in a Peach Belt Conference match on a neutral court. The Falcons claimed the first two sets 28-26 and 25-15 before the Jaguars rallied to take the final three, 25-23, 25-20 and 15-12.
Sophomore Chandler Cooper led the Falcons (10-6) with 11 kills after hitting .562 in the win over the Panthers. The Falcons finished with a .429 hitting percentage in the victory.
Junior Rebekah Phelps added eight kills. Senior Katie Best contributed seven kills.
Junior Briana Marquez finished with a team-high 20 assists, while sophomore Hannah Christie contributed 11 assists.
Juniors Carissa Bell and Nicole Holton led the Falcons with eight digs each.
Phelps led Montevallo with 15 kills while hitting a team-best .412 in the loss to GRU Augusta. Phelps also recorded 13 digs as she posted her sixth double-double of the season.
Cooper added 11 kills. Freshman Kristy Bohan contributed nine kills and Best finished with eight kills.
Marquez finished with a team-high 38 assists to go along with 13 digs as she recorded her sixth double-double of the season.
Bell finished with a team-high 15 digs.
The Falcons return to action Friday, Oct. 3 with a Peach Belt Conference match against Lander University.
