Falcons post second straight shutout win

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – After shutting out rival Flagler College just a few days prior, the University of Montevallo men's soccer team earned another three points in style on Wednesday night, again yielding zero goals in a conference win. The Falcons defeated the Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes 2-0.

Neither team could score in the first half, but each side had their chances. GSW had more shots and more shots on goal in the first frame than Montevallo, but the home team was able to earn five corner kicks, compared to none by the Hurricanes.

In the second half, Montevallo was finally able to break the scoreless tie. Freshman Josh Keller, who just scored his first career goal in the previous game, scored his second goal of the year at 55:32. Keller was able to score from an awkward angle on a bouncing ball in the box.

Ram Gilad was credited with his fourth assist of the year on the eventual game-winning goal, which leads the team.

The Falcons would be able to double their lead at 78:17 when senior Steven Didik put a ball in the back of the net after clanging it off the right post. It was his fourth goal of the year, which makes him the team leader in goals and ties him for second place in points with Gilad.

Kevin Francis recorded his second assist of the year on the tally.

2-0 would prove to be the final margin of victory, with the Falcons earning back-to-back shutout conference victories.

Yannic Horn, the reigning Peach Belt Conference Goalkeeper of the Week, earned his fifth clean sheet of the year.

Montevallo (6-3-3, 3-2-2) will face a road conference test this weekend when they take the field against the second place USC Aiken Pacers.

First kick for that contest is scheduled for approximately 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, October 18.
