Women's soccer puts up 50 shots in 2-0 win

MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's soccer team earned its first win in dominating fashion on Wednesday, outshooting Georgia Southwestern 50-3 and earning the 2-0 victory.

In the first half, the Falcons were able to get 22 shots, compared to just a single shot for the Hurricanes.

Elyse Gowen made three saves for Georgia Southwestern in the first half to keep the game scoreless.

The second half would be the half that the Montevallo attack would be able to break through and earn the commanding conference victory.

Jade Pennock scored off a Camilla Alderin ball from just outside the six-yard box at 31:07. It was Pennock's fourth goal of the season, while Alderin recorded her first points of 2014 with the assist.

The Pontefract, England native would not be done putting the ball in the back of the net, as just five minutes later, Pennock would score the insurance goal for the Falcons. Pennock's second goal of the night was her fifth of the year; her 10 points on the season are the most on the team.

Greenwood tallied her first points of the year on the assist; she had four assists last season, which was the second most on the squad.

Montevallo would have numerous other chances, including a near hat trick for Pennock, but would not score again. In the 2-0 win, they had 50 total shots and nine shots on goal.

Pennock and Greenwood each had seven shots to lead the way for the Falcons. Behind them was Nicole Johnston and Michaela Graber, who each had five shots.

Hampton Brinson, along with Pennock and Greenwood, led the way for shots on goal, with each of them recording two.

Katie Pearson earned the shutout victory. It was the first shutout of her collegiate career.

The Falcons (1-7-1, 1-5-1) are on the road this weekend, traveling to Aiken, South Carolina. They take on the Pacers at noon on Saturday, October 18.
