LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of Montevallo women's soccer team dropped a non-conference road matchup on Wednesday evening against the West Alabama Tigers, falling 3-0.
The leading scorer for the 12-2-1 Tigers struck at 16:51, putting the home team on top by a goal. Nicki Gears scored her 10th goal of the season to open up the game. Mara DeLuca and Nina Coleman were each credited with an assist.
For the remainder of the first half, neither team was able to put any additional goals on the board, so the 1-0 score stood as the teams broke for the half.
Freshman Taylor Gonzales led the Falcons in shots in the first half.
Unfortunately for Montevallo, West Alabama scored their second goal of the game just minutes into the second half. Coleman scored her second goal of the season off a rebound at 48:03, and Gears was credited with her team leading seventh assist.
Coleman would strike again at 79:14, and, again, Gears was on the other end for the assist.
The West Alabama duo of Coleman and Gears was involved in all three Tiger goals.
Hampton Brinson, Emma Greenwood, and reigning PBC Player of the Week Jade Pennock each had a shot on goal for UM.
Freshman goalkeeper Katie Pearson had seven saves in the contest.
Montevallo (1-9-1, 1-6-1) returns to conference play on Saturday, October 25, against Georgia College at Varsity Field.
