MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo volleyball team picked up wins against Flagler College and the University of West Georgia while celebrating the life of former assistant coach Erin Heffner Ventress Oct. 25 at Trustmark Arena in its Dig Lavender tri-match.
The Falcons (17-8 overall, 8-4 in Peach Belt Conference) defeated the Saints in five sets in a Peach Belt Conference match for the second time this season, earning a 25-22, 25-21, 21-25, 23-25, 15-9 victory, as three players set a new career mark in the win.
Freshman Kristy Bohan led Montevallo with a career-high 21 kills in the conference match, while junior Briana Marquez recorded a career-high 71 assists in the victory. Marquez added 12 digs while posting her 12th double-double of the year.
Junior Carissa Bell paced the Falcons with a career-high 31 digs.
Senior Katie Best also added a career high with 17 kills to go along with nine digs. Fellow senior Sarah Guidry registered 14 digs and 24 digs as she posted her seventh double-double of the season. Junior Rebekah Phelps, who registered 15 digs as she posted her 11th double-double of the year, compiled 13 kills and sophomore Chandler Cooper contributed 12 kills in the win.
Montevallo defeated West Georgia in three sets, 25-17, 25-16, 25-18, in a non-conference match.
Best and Cooper led the Falcons with 13 kills each in the victory. Bohan added seven kills, while junior Nicole Holton contributed five kills.
Marquez led the Falcons with 27 assists to go along with six digs, while sophomore Hannah Christie contributed 14 assists and four digs.
Bell led Montevallo with 12 digs in the win.
The Falcons will return to action Saturday Tuesday, Oct. 28 with a trip to Augusta, Ga. to take on GRU Augusta in a Peach Belt Conference match.
