AUGUSTA, Ga. – University of Montevallo freshman Kristy Bohan registered a team-high 15 kills in a 3-1 setback on the road at GRU Augusta in a Peach Belt Conference match Oct. 28.
The Jaguars defeated the Falcons 25-18, 25-21, 20-25, 29-27 in the four-set victory.
Senior Katie Best recorded 10 kills and finished with a team-best .286 hitting percentage for the Falcons, who fell to 17-9 overall and 8-5 in Peach Belt Conference play.
Sophomore Chandler Cooper also recorded 10 kills and finished with a .276 hitting percentage. Senior Sarah Guidry chipped in nine kills and junior Rebekah Phelps contributed seven kills to go along with 17 digs in the match.
Sophomore Hannah Christie led the Falcons with 37 assists while also contributing 14 digs as she posted her second double-double of the season. Junior Briana Marquez contributed 12 assists.
Junior Carissa Bell paced Montevallo with 18 digs. Junior Nicole Holton finished with 14 digs.
The Falcons dropped the first set against the Jaguars, 25-18. GRU Augusta jumped out to a 5-1 lead over the Falcons after two early kills by Kristen Koch. Montevallo managed to trim the deficit to 12-10 midway through the set before a 3-0 run late in the frame by the Jaguars helped GRU Augusta clinch the victory in the opening set.
The Jaguars earned a 25-21 win over Montevallo in the second set after opening the frame with a commanding 9-1 run. The Falcons responded with an impressive 10-2 run of their own to tie the set at 11-11 before GRU Augusta ended the frame with 7-4 run, capturing the win in the second set on a kill by Koch.
Montevallo took the third set after clinching a 25-20 victory over the Jaguars. GRU Augusta opened the frame with a 4-1 run before the Falcons came back with a 5-2 run of their own to tie the set at 6-6. Neither team led by more than three points down the stretch until a kill by Christie sparked the Falcons during a 6-2 run to end the frame and helped Montevallo secure the win in the third set.
GRU Augusta closed out the 3-1 victory with a 29-27 win over the Falcons in the fourth set. A kill by Phelps gave Montevallo an early 4-2 lead in the frame, but a 10-5 run midway through the set gave the Jaguars their first lead in the set. The teams battled down the stretch before a service ace and a kill by Kali Boatwright helped the Jaguars clinch the match with a 29-27 victory in the fourth set.
Koch led the Jaguars with 21 kills in the match.
The Falcons will return to action Friday, Oct. 31 with a Peach Belt Conference match on the road against USC Aiken in Aiken, S.C.
