MONTEVALLO, Ala. – University of Montevallo senior Katie Best and freshman Kristy Bohan paced the Falcons with 13 kills each in a 3-0 sweep of visiting Lander University in a Peach Belt Conference contest Oct. 3.
Bohan registered a career-high .632 hitting percentage in the Falcons' 25-16, 25-13, 25-10 victory.
"When everything is clicking like that, it's awesome," said Montevallo volleyball coach Katie O'Brien. "Hopefully it will keep on happening."
Junior Rebekah Phelps added nine kills and shared the team lead with 16 digs for the Falcons, who improved to 11-6 overall and 3-2 in Peach Belt Conference play.
Senior Sarah Guidry, who registered 11 digs, and sophomore Chandler Cooper added six kills each. Junior Briana Marquez finished with a team-high 43 assists, her career high in a three-set match, while posting 16 digs and five kills as she recorded her eighth double-double of the season.
Junior Carissa Bell chipped in 15 digs.
Montevallo closed the first set with a 7-2 run, fueled with kills from Best, Phelps and Cooper, to secure a 25-16 win in the opening set.
The Falcons dominated down the stretch in the second set to take a 2-0 lead in the match with a 25-13 win in the frame. Montevallo closed the set with a 18-7 run and closed out the win with a kill by Best.
Montevallo used an impressive 8-0 scoring run with Best serving midway through the final set to coast to a 25-10 win in the set to clinch the match. Phelps recorded the final two kills for the Falcons in the set to help the Falcons close out the 3-0 sweep.
Sydney Tracy led Lander (12-2 overall, 2-2 in Peach Belt Conference) with 10 kills.
The Falcons return to action Saturday, Oct. 4 with a match against visiting USC Aiken in Peach Belt Conference action.
