MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Behind a goal from senior defensive standout Octavia Saunders, the University of Montevallo women's soccer team earned their first point on the year, earning a draw with the unbeaten Lander University Bearcats.

The first half was competitive, with each team earning chances, but Montevallo goalkeeper Katie Pearson thwarted all Bearcat attempts and had six saves in the opening half. The same could not be said for Lander, as chaos in the box following a corner kick led to Saunders' first goal of the year. Charlotte Crisp assisted on the goal. She had substituted into the game minutes earlier and recorded her first career point at Montevallo.

Lander would remain in the one goal hole for the remainder of the half.

Jade Pennock had a near goal for the Falcons in the first frame, forcing Katie Lyle to make a fingertip save and push the ball over the crossbar.

Some halftime substitutions for the Bearcats, including at goalkeeper, led to some new enthusiasm. Fayla Junior came into the game at the half and had a couple of good runs right away coming out of the locker room. Overall, Junior had three shots for the game.

It would be another substitution for Lander who would notch the equalizer, though. Logan Lewis took only one shot, but she made it count, tying the game at one with 10:25 left in regulation. The assist went to Kimberly Kesler, Lander's season-leading scorer.

For the rest of the second half and through both overtime periods, neither team was able to find the back of the net, and the contest ended in the stalemate.

The Falcons (0-5-1) are back on the road next week, traveling to Dahlonega to take on the UNG Nighthawks in a PBC matchup.
