DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The University of Montevallo played the #11 team in the country on Wednesday in the University of North Georgia Nighthawks. North Georgia was victorious in the match, beating Montevallo 9-2.
The first 30 minutes of the game were scoreless, but the Nighthawks were able to get on the board at 33:46. UNG's first goal of the day came from Jacy Ramey, who scored on a header after a cross from Sophia Matonak.
Jade Pennock evened the match for the Falcons, scoring her team-leading third goal of the year at 37:28. The assist when to Charlotte Crisp, who now has two assists in the last two games.
North Georgia retook the lead less than two minutes later as the duo who combined for the first goal switched roles for goal number two. Matonak scored her sixth goal of the year on the assist from Ramey.
It was 2-1 at the half, with the Falcons just one goal behind the #11 Nighthawks.
In the second half, Cicely Taliaferro, Rachel Vanhorn, and Matonak all put balls in the back of the net right after the half. Taliaferro and Vanhorn came into the game tied for the third most goals in the Peach Belt Conference. Each of them netted their ninth goal of the year in this matchup. Matonak recorded her second goal and fifth point of the game.
Nicole Johnston put another Montevallo goal on the board at 63:32. The senior from Liverpool, England recorded her first goal of the year while freshman Taylor Gonzales recorded her first point of the year on the assist.
The Nighthawks put up four more goals before the 90 minutes was over. Sydney Reeder, Jessica Allen, Kassidy Freeman, and Jessi Vaverka all scored for UNG.
North Georgia remained undefeated in conference play and is now 10-1 on the season.
Montevallo (0-6-1, 0-4-1) returns home to Varsity Field this Saturday. They will take on the Flagler Saints at 5 p.m.
