MONTEVALLO, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men's soccer team hosted #3 Young Harris in their regular season finale Saturday afternoon. The Mountain Lionos notched a goal late in the first half and were able to hold on to the lead for the remainder of the match. They left Varsity Field with a 1-0 win.
Before the game began, Montevallo recognized their seven seniors: Kyle Stuller, Remy Moulard, Ram Gilad, Steven Didik, Alex Morton, Andrew Agyin-Birikorang, and Anthony Agyin-Birikorang.
The majority of the first half was scoreless, but after some crisp passes were exchanged in the box in the 34th minute, Paco Craig was able to put YHC in front of Montevallo with his seventh goal of the year. The assist went to Lewis Hilton.
Just before the half, Young Harris' Craig Quinn received a red card, meaning that the Mountain Lions would have to play the remainder of the game a man down.
In the second half, the Falcons were able to keep the Mountain Lions off the scoreboard, but were unfortunately unable to get on the board themselves, falling to the PBC Champions by the final score of 1-0.
The win cemented an undefeated regular season for Young Harris, who will enter the conference tournament as the top seed with a record of 14-0-1 and 9-0 in Peach Belt play.
Montevallo (6-6-4, 3-4-2) has qualified for the Peach Belt Conference Tournament. The Falcons' opponent will be released later tonight. Last season, the Falcons entered the tournament at the seventh seed and ended up winning the whole thing.
