MONTEVALLO, Ala. – This Saturday was Senior Day for the University of Montevallo women's soccer team. The Falcons are a senior heavy team and will lose nine student-athletes to graduation next season. For the season finale, Montevallo fell to Young Harris by the final of 2-1.
The excitement carried over to the start of the contest, as the Falcons were the first to strike. Camilla Alderin, who has started all 66 matches of her career, scored her first goal of the year at 13:22.
The senior from Oslo, Norway gave the Falcons a 1-0 lead that would hold for the remainder of the half, as UM was able to outshoot the visiting Mountain Lions 7-5 in the first frame.
In the second half, Young Harris was able to quickly even things up with a goal by Carly Rich at 49:50.
Rich would be heard from again, netting the go-ahead, and eventual game-winning, goal at 77:41. She received the ball on a cross from Julia DaSilva to put Young Harris on top. 2-1.
Montevallo was able to put eight shots on goal in the contest, but seven were stopped by YHC goalkeeper Arielle Charles.
For the Falcons (1-12-1, 1-9-1), Saturday's contest was the final one of the 2014 season. It also marked the final game in the Montevallo careers of Jade Pennock, Octavia Saunders, Julie Heltne, Rebecca Dowling, Melissa Bode, Charlotte Crisp, Nicole Johnston, Alderin, and Emma Greenwood.
