LIVINGSTON, Ala. – University of Montevallo junior Jacquelyn Thompson led the Falcons with a team-high 16 points in a 62-47 setback on the road at the University of West Alabama in a non-conference contest Nov. 25.
Thompson finished 6-of-16 from the floor, including 4-of-11 from beyond the arc.
Senior Carrington Caise added 14 points and a team-high three assists for the Falcons, who dropped to 0-5 on the season. Sophomore Ellie Mouyal contributed seven points, while junior Katherine Goldsby finished with six points and a team-high seven rebounds.
The Falcons opened the game with a 7-0 run following a 3-pointer by Thompson and baskets by Mouyal and Caise and carried a 12-4 lead into the first media timeout.
West Alabama responded with a 10-3 run to trim the Falcons' lead to 15-14 following a 3-pointer by Malaka Johnson with 12:01 remaining in the opening half.
The Tigers took their first lead with 10:34 left in the first half following a layup by Jasmine Hampton, which gave West Alabama a 16-15 lead. The Tigers ended the half with a 7-2 run and took a 29-22 lead into the locker room at halftime following a 3-pointer by Johnson in the final minute.
West Alabama opened up its first double-digit lead following a jumper by Brittany McCloud with 9:42 left in the game, which gave the Tigers a 46-34 advantage.
The Falcons responded with a 8-0 run, capped with a pair of free throws by Caise, to trim the deficit to 46-42 with 7:04 remaining but Montevallo couldn't cut it to a one-possession game down the stretch.
The Falcons will return to action Saturday, Dec. 6 with a non-conference contest against Stillman College.
Tip-off at Trustmark Arena is set for 1:30 p.m., with Tailgating with the Falcons set to take place before the game.
