FLORENCE, S.C. – Last season, the University of Montevallo and Francis Marion University met in the Peach Belt Conference Men's Soccer Tournament Championship Game. This year, the Falcons and the Patriots had a rematch in the first round of the conference tournament. Unlike last time around, Francis Marion would be victorious, knocking off the defending tournament champions 2-0.

It was an unfortunate start to the contest for Montevallo, allowing an early goal just after a Francis Marion corner kick. The goal was scored at 3:34 and was credited to FMU's David Sheridan. Sheridan scored three goals during the regular season.

Through the remainder of the half, both squads were able to put multiple shots on net, with the Patriots looking to extend their lead, and the Falcons looking to even the score. However, neither side was able to put another goal on the board, despite some good looks.

The score at the half was a credit to Montevallo's Yannic Horn and Francis Marion's Mike Warn, each of whom was named PBC Goalkeeper of the Week during the year.

Just a few minutes after halftime, the Patriots were able to get their second goal of the night, benefiting from a Falcon own goal.

The 2-0 lead would hold the rest of the way, and Francis Marion would avenge their 2013 PBC Championship Game defeat to the Falcons.

Montevallo (6-7-2) outshot Francis Marion (12-3-2) in the game, 15-14. Jeffrey Hessenberger led the way with three shots on goal, while Srdjan Dujkovic had two shots on goal, and senior Alex Morton had a shot on goal in his final collegiate game.
