MONTEVALLO, Ala. – University of Montevallo freshman Kristy Bohan and senior Katie Best led the Falcons with 17 kills each in a 3-2 setback against visiting Columbus State University in a Peach Belt Conference contest.
Bohan led the Falcons with a .378 hitting percentage and Best finished with a .310 hitting percentage against the Cougars, who came back to win the final three sets and took the match 21-25, 18-25, 25-17, 25-23, 15-13.
Sophomore Chandler Cooper contributed 11 kills, while junior Rebekah Phelps added eight kills to go along with 11 digs.
Junior Briana Marquez led the Falcons (18-11 overall, 9-7 in Peach Belt Conference) 33 assists to go along with 14 digs while posting her 13th double-double. Sophomore Hannah Christie contributed 16 assists.
Junior Carissa Bell paced the Falcons with a career-high 43 digs in the match. Senior Sarah Guidry added 14 digs.
The Falcons opened the first with a 7-1 run before holding off a late rally by the Cougars to clinch a 25-21 win in the opening set.
Montevallo opened the second set with another 7-1 run, capped with a kill by Bohan. Columbus State rallied to tie the set at 10-10 before the Falcons closed out the frame with a 15-8 run, clinching the set on a kill by Bohan.
The Cougars stormed back to win the third set 25-17 before holding off the Falcons in the final two sets, 25-23 and 15-13.
The Falcons will return to action Friday, Nov. 7 with a Peach Belt Conference match against Francis Marion University.
