MONTEVALLO, Ala. – University of Montevallo senior Katie Best recorded 13 kills to lead the Falcons to a 3-1 win over visiting Francis Marion University in a Peach Belt Conference contest Nov. 7.

Best finished with a .414 hitting percentage in the 25-21, 21-25, 25-15, 25-23 win over the Patriots. Montevallo, ranked No. 10 in the latest NCAA Division II Southeast Region rankings, improved to 19-11 overall and 10-7 in Peach Belt Conference play.

Freshman Kristy Bohan added 10 kills in the victory, while junior Rebekah Phelps contributed nine kills and senior Sarah Guidry finished with seven kills.

Sophomore Hannah Christie led the Falcons with 27 assists to go along with five kills and 15 digs as she posted her fourth double-double of the season. Junior Briana Marquez chipped in 18 assists and nine digs.

Junior Carissa Bell, the Peach Belt Conference leader with 613 total digs this season, contributed a team-high 22 digs. Sophomore Taylor Gibson added 11 digs.

Montevallo closed the opening set with a 10-7 run, capped with a set-clinching kill by Bohan, to defeat the Patriots 25-21 in the first set.

After dropping the second set 25-21, the Falcons raced out to an early 5-1 lead on their way to a 25-15 win over the Patriots in the third set. Montevallo closed the frame with a 4-0 run to secure the set.

The Falcons overcame an early 6-1 deficit against the Patriots in the fourth set. Down 23-21, Montevallo went on a 4-0 run fueled with kills by Phelps, Christie and Guidry to close out the match with a 25-23 win over Francis Marion in the fourth set.

Montevallo will close out the regular season Saturday, Nov. 8 with a Peach Belt Conference match against UNC Pembroke. The Falcons will honor seniors Katie Best and Sarah Guidry before the Senior Day match at Trustmark Arena.
