AUGUSTA, Ga. – The University of Montevallo women's basketball team dropped their second conference game of the season on Saturday, falling 60-50 to GRU Augusta.
Neither side gained an advantage early on in the first half. Tied at 13, the Falcons were able to put distance between themselves and the home team, going on a quick 12-3 run before finishing the half with an eight point lead, 28-20.
The run was predicated by the impressive play of Katherine Goldsby. The junior scored 10 points for UM in the first half to lead the team.
Junior Jacquelyn Thompson hit two three-pointers in the half, including one right before the buzzer sounded.
To open up the second half, Montevallo extended its lead to double digits after a made Jasmine Thomas basket made it a 10 point margin.
The rest of the way, however, the Jaguars would take control of the contest. GRU Augusta pulled away from Montevallo and earned the 60-50 victory.
The catalyst for the GRU Augusta win was the three-point shooting of Joshlyn Belcher and Camille Gee. These two were the only players to attempt shots from beyond the arc for the home team, and the two went a combined 7-for-10 from distance.
For Montevallo, Thompson led the way, scoring 14 points on the day.
Goldsby finished with 12 points off the bench and led the team with two steals.
Thomas had eight points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Senior Carrington Caise was the team-leader in assists. The Lexington, Kentucky native had three assists to go along with six points.
Montevallo (1-8, 0-2 PBC) will be off until January 3, 2015. When they return from break, they will be on the road in Americus, Georgia to take on the Georgia Southwestern Hurricanes.
