MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Earlier this season, the University of Montevallo men's basketball dropped a close road game against Tuskegee University. On Wednesday, they were able to avenge the loss with a commanding 75-55 win.
To open up the game, both sides were able stay within striking distance of one another, with the lead changing hands on multiple occasions.
The key for the Falcons came on a late first half surge. UM went on an 18-4 run to close out the opening half and took a 36-21 lead to the locker room.
Malik Fields had six points for the home team during that run, including a dunk as the buzzer sounded.
Montevallo continued their run as the second half got underway, expanding their lead to 21 points after a 6-0 run.
Eventually, the lead would get up to as many as 31 points on the way to a comfortable win for the Falcons, defeating the Tigers 75-55.
Ryan May led all scorers with a game-high 19 points. The senior was perfect from the floor, going 6-for-6 from the field and making all three of his three-point attempts.
Troran Brown had a double-double for Montevallo, scoring 14 points and dishing out 10 assists.
Off the bench, Ibrahim Johnson was also able to score 14 points in addition to grabbing eight boards. He also had two blocks.
The starting frontcourt of Larry Slaughter and Fields combined to score 19 points.
Led by Johnson, Slaughter, and Fields, the Falcons were able to outrebound the Tigers, 32-23.
Tuskegee (2-1) was led by James Vinson, who scored 14 points off the bench.
The Falcons (3-5) will play their final home game until after the winter break this Saturday, December 6.
Montevallo will square off with Miles for their second matchup of the season. UM was victorious the first time the two teams played. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
