MONTEVALLO, Ala. – University of Montevallo junior Jacquelyn Thompson finished one point shy of her career high with a team-best 26 points while leading the Falcons to their first win of the season following a 63-61 victory over Stillman College in a non-conference contest Dec. 6 at Trustmark Arena.
Thompson finished 9-of-15 from the field, including 6-of-11 from beyond the arc, while draining both free throw attempts in the win. Thompson also grabbed a career-high nine rebounds, recorded two steals and dished out one assist for the Falcons, who improved to 1-5 on the season.
Senior Carrington Caise added nine points on 5-of-6 shooting from the charity stripe while dishing out a team-high four assists. Junior Katherine Goldsby contributed eight points. Junior Jasmine Thomas finished with six points off the bench.
Sophomore Ellie Mouyal and freshman Katija Tarailo added five points each.
Montevallo led by as many as nine points in the opening half following a layup by Goldsby with 6:19 remaining in the half, which gave the Falcons a 21-12 advantage.
Stillman College ended the half with a 18-8 run to carry a 30-29 lead into the half.
The Tigers led by as many as five points late in the second half following a pair of free throws by Angel Mitchell with 3:36 remaining, giving Stillman a 55-50 lead.
Thompson knocked down a 3-pointer minutes later to tie the game and a jumper by Caise with 1:19 left in the game gave the Falcons the lead for good. Shevene Turner missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer to end the Tigers chances of picking up their first win of the season.
The Falcons will return to action Saturday, Dec. 13 in their final non-conference game against Spring Hill College.
