Falcons earn a convincing road win over Lakers

MORROW, Ga. – The University of Montevallo men's basketball team took on the Clayton State Lakers for the second time in eight days on Saturday. In last week's game, Clayton State held the advantage over Montevallo for the majority of the contest, but surrendered the lead in the final minute in an eventual loss. This week, the Falcons held a convincing lead over the Lakers for the majority of the game and left Morrow with a 75-63 win.

In the first half, the Falcons were firing on all cylinders. In last week's game, the Falcons never led by more than two points. On Saturday, less than seven minutes into the game, they led by eight points.

After the first 20 minutes had ended, Montevallo held a 39-26 lead over Clayton State.

The stellar first half by the Falcons was made possible by fantastic shooting. Overall, the Falcons shot an astounding 77% from the field in the opening half.

Montevallo's first half attack was led by Ryan May. May had 12 points on 5-6 shooting from the field and made both of his three-point shots.

In the second half, the Falcons maintained their lead and finished off the Lakers by the final score of 75-63.

Four players from Montevallo scored in double digits. May led the team with 15 points in 37 minutes. He also led the team in assists, dishing out seven helpers.

Right behind May in scoring were Shykeem Jackson and Troran Brown, who each put up 13 points. Jackson's day was highlighted by his three-point shooting. The Peach Belt's third most prolific three-pointer shooter shot 80% from beyond the arc. Brown played 39 minutes and shot over 50% from the floor.

Off the bench, Da-Juan Cooper provided a spark for Montevallo. He had 12 points on 75% shooting in 16 minutes.

The Falcons returned to their winning ways after their seven game winning streak was snapped by Georgia Southwestern this past Wednesday.
