COLUMBUS, Ga. – The University of Montevallo volleyball team defeated Georgia College 3-1 in its Peach Belt Conference opener Sept. 12 in a neutral site match on the Columbus State University campus.
The Falcons defeated the Bobcats 25-16, 13-25, 25-16, 25-21.
Senior Katie Best led Montevallo (3-4 overall, 1-0 in Peach Belt Conference) with a season-high 15 kills while hitting .367 in the conference opener.
Junior Rebekah Phelps and freshman Kristy Bohan added 10 kills each. Senior Sarah Guidry contributed nine kills to go along with a team-high 13 digs.
Junior Carissa Bell added 12 digs, while juniors Briana Marquez and Nicole Holton contributed 11 digs. Marquez also provided a game-high 39 assists in the victory.
The Falcons will return to action Saturday, Sept. 13 with a pair of non-conference matches against Mars Hill University and Erskine College on the Columbus State University campus.
Montevallo will face Mars Hill at 1:30 p.m., followed by a match against Erskine at 3:30 p.m.
