Falcons earn a point in a scoreless draw at Pembroke

PEMBROKE, N.C. – In the first game of the Peach Belt Conference schedule, the University of Montevallo men's soccer team were able to earn a point, as they battled to a scoreless draw with the UNC Pembroke Braves.

A tight game the whole way, there were opportunities for each team in Saturday night's contest.

UNC Pembroke saw a ball go in the back of the net, only to have it waved off by an offsides call. Montevallo made Braves' keeper Kenneth Perkinson make a few tough saves, a challenge that he was able to meet.

At 86:36, the Braves' Nathan Legge received a red card after her committed two fouls in under ten seconds. This put UNC Pembroke at a one man disadvantage for the rest of regulation and into overtime, as neither team was able to score in 90 minutes.

Even with the man advantage, the Falcons were unable to score in the 20 minutes of overtime.

Montevallo is all too familiar with overtime, as each of their last three games have needed the extra sessions.

The Braves outshot the Falcons in the game, but Montevallo was able to put more shots on goal and drew more corner kicks than UNC Pembroke.

Srdjan Dujkovic led the Falcons in shots, with three, and shots on goal, with two.

The Falcons (2-1-2) will return to non-conference play in just a few days. They will be taking on Spring Hill College in a Gulf South/Peach Belt crossover match this Tuesday, September 23. That match is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. at Varsity Field.
