LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men's soccer team suffered its first defeat of the season in a 4-0 setback on the road at the University of West Alabama in a non-conference match Sept. 7.
The Tigers (2-0) scored a pair of goals in each half against the Falcons, who fell to 1-1 on the season.
Junior Ram Gilad, who finished with one shot on goal, and freshman Srdjan Dujkovic fired two shots each for the Falcons. Senior Kyle Stuller and sophomore Jeffrey Hessenberger each fired one shot on goal.
Freshman goalkeeper Yannic Horn stopped three shots on goal by the Tigers in the match.
West Alabama scored both of its first-half goals off rebound opportunities as the Tigers jumped out to a 2-0 lead at halftime.
The Tigers took a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute when Traye Torrance collected a shot attempt that bounced off the post and fired a second shot back into the net past Horn.
West Alabama scored its second goal in similar fashion after Thibault Charmey collected his shot attempt off the post and pushed his second attempt into the net in the 41st minute of the match. The goal was Charmey's third tally of the season in the Tigers' two matches.
The Tigers added two more goals in the second half to close out the 4-0 victory over the Falcons.
Evan Beutler gave West Alabama a 3-0 lead in the 58th minute of the contest with his first goal of the season off an attempt from 20 yards out. Vitor Gazza assisted on the tally by Beutler.
West Alabama struck again two minutes later when Torrance netted his second goal of the match off a corner kick by Brian Meadows in the 60th minute, which gave the Tigers a 4-0 advantage.
The Falcons will return to action Friday, Sept. 12 with a non-conference match on the road at Eckerd College.
First kick in the match is set for 7 p.m. Eastern/6 p.m. Central.
