How it Happened
The Falcons and the Saints battled in set one as both teams went back and forth until the Saints went on a six point run to widen the gap to 12-6. The Falcons were unable to work themselves back into the set as the Saints took the first set 25-17. Kristy Bohan and Nicole Holton both had 3 kills in the first set.
In the second set the Falcons came back from a 0-4 deficit by delivering four unanswered points to tie the set at 4-4. After battling back and forth the Falcons went on a five point run to take a commanding 18-12 lead. The Falcons did not look back and used the momentum to claim the second set 25-17.
The third set was just as hotly contested as the first two with neither team gaining an advantage over the other. Late in the set the Falcons were trailing 22-24 when Breana Thomas came up with a critical kill to help pull the Falcons within one point of a tie. The game was tied at 24-24 with a Briana Marquez service ace and kills by Thomas and Hilton helped the Falcons to a 26-25 lead. The Saints rallied to score three straight points to win the set 28-26.
The fourth set was just like the third with the Falcons and the Saints matching each other blow for blow with neither team able to build momentum and gain the upper hand. The Falcons were able to finish off the Saints 25-23 and claim the victory to force a fifth set.
The match's final set transpired the same as the two previous ones with both teams matching each other's attacks. With the game tied up at 10-10 the Saints went on a three point run and the Falcons were not able to recover as the Saints claimed the set and the match.
Stat of the Match
The Falcons had three players with double-digit kills in today's match. Bohan led the Falcons attack with 20 kills while Holton had 15 and Rebekah Phelps had 11.
