AUGUSTA, Ga. – University of Montevallo senior Briana Marquez has been named the Peach Belt Conference Specialist of the Week for the second time in her career in a span of three weeks.
Marquez, who earned the award two weeks ago after registering the 3,000th assist of her career, took home the honor this week after posting a pair of double-double efforts while guiding the Falcons to a perfect 3-0 record in Peach Belt Conference play last week.
The Channahon, Illinois native opened the week with 45 assists in the Falcons' 3-1 win on the road at Columbus State in a conference match Oct. 13. Marquez also contributed four kills and three service aces in the victory.
The Falcons' primary setter recorded her seventh double-double effort with 31 assists and 12 digs in a 3-0 sweep of UNC Pembroke in a conference match Oct. 16.
Marquez followed up with another double-double, her eighth of the year, as the Falcons survived in a 3-2 victory over Francis Marion in a conference match Oct. 17. Marquez contributed a season-high 64 assists to go along with 14 digs in the victory, with her 64 assists leaving her just seven assists shy of tying her career high.
Her 64 assists against the Patriots are the most by a Peach Belt Conference setter in a match this year and rank as the seventh-most assists registered in a match nationally in NCAA Division II this season.
Marquez leads the conference with 790 assists and is third in the conference in assists per set with an average of 9.88 assists per set. She also leads the conference with 39 service aces this season.
Marquez and the Falcons will return to action tonight with a Peach Belt Conference match against Augusta University at Trustmark Arena.
First serve is set for 6 p.m.
