HOW IT HAPPENED

The Falcons played their best match of the season against the Nighthawks as they snapped a five-match losing streak with a key victory in Peach Belt Conference play.

The scoring started early, with Montevallo taking a 3-0 lead at halftime with three first-half goals against North Georgia.

The Keller twins hooked up for the first goal in the game as sophomore Zach Keller found the back of the net off a feed from fellow sophomore Josh Keller in the 27th minute of the contest.

Freshman Sebastian Kraus gave the Falcons a 2-0 lead with his goal just more than one minute later in the opening half.

Josh Keller got in the scoring column with his goal in the 37th minute of the contest.

Freshman Shawn Healy capped the 4-0 victory with a goal off a feed from fellow freshman Moritz Wagner, marking the Falcons' lone goal in the second half.

STAT OF THE MATCH

Josh Keller finished with a career-high three points in the victory. The Franklin, Tennessee native scored one goal in the opening half and assisted on another goal by his twin brother, Zach.

BEYOND THE NUMBERS

Montevallo assistant coach Floreal Pedrazo got his first victory as an acting head coach after directing the Falcons in the absence of Bruce Dietterle.

Sophomore goalkeeper Yannic Horn tied his career high with nine saves as he turned away nine attempts by the Nighthawks.

QUOTABLE

Assistant Coach Floreal Pedrazo

"The difference in this game was that more commitment, moving forward in offense. You commit, you need to get numbers around the ball or you are on defense. Either way, we showed hard work and willingness to complete, especially in defense and in the first half or that's how we scored the goals."

"It is very good that we won today and that we scored goals today especially after the losses that we've had. I told the guys before the game, we give them everything we can, from scholarships to nice equipment to a nice lockeroom to scouting the game. At the end of the day, we have to play 90 minutes and that's on them. They have to show up and play hard and have the willingness to win and they saw if they do that, they are successful. We just hope these transitions into the other games on the road."

Sophomore Josh Keller

"We played really well and it feels really good to get a win again. It's been awhile."

"We just build from it, just keeping doing what we're doing and the results should keep going our way."

UP NEXT

Montevallo will take off for a tough stretch on the road in Peach Belt Conference play with three matches in a span of six days, beginning with a match Saturday, Oct. 10 against Flagler College in St. Augustine, Florida. Match time is set for 7:30 p.m. Eastern/6:30 p.m. Central.
