HOW IT HAPPENED

Visiting LeMoyne-Owen held off a late rally by Montevallo to defeat the Falcons 71-53 in a non-conference contest.

The Magicians took control of the contest early with 12-1 run to open the contest on their way to an 18-8 lead after the opening period. Shantiera Miller knocked down a 3-pointer with 3:56 remaining in the period to cap the early run.

LeMoyne-Owen led by as many as 23 points in the second period following a jumper by Rachel Hughes, which gave the Magicians a 34-11 lead with 5:13 remaining in the first half. LeMoyne-Owen carried a 40-21 lead into the locker room at halftime.

The Falcons trimmed the deficit to 48-32 following a layup by senior Jasmine Thomas with 2:18 left in the third period. The Magicians pushed their lead back to 56-34 following a basket and a free throw by Montique McConnell with seven seconds left in the period.

LeMoyne-Owen took its largest lead in the game following a layup by Rachel Hughes 11 seconds into the fourth period, which gave the Magicians a 58-34 lead. The Falcons responded with a 12-1 run and managed to trim the deficit to 59-46 following a layup by senior Jacquelyn Thompson with 4:20 remaining in the contest.

However, the Magicians ended the game with a 12-7 run to close out the 71-53 victory.

STAT OF THE GAME

The Falcons finished with 12 blocks against LeMoyne-Owen, the most blocks for the Falcons in a game since a contest against Lander in January 2014. Sophomore Katija Tarailo tied her career high with four blocks.

BEYOND THE NUMBERS

 Junior RayVon Christian became the Falcons' first player of the year to reach double figures in rebounds after grabbing a career-high 10 boards against the Magicians.

Freshman Ashley Dunstan reached double figures in scoring a regular season game for the first time in her career after finishing with 10 points on 4-of-11 shooting from the floor. Dunstan also grabbed six rebounds and dished out four assists.

UP NEXT

The Falcons will return to action Saturday, Nov. 21 with a trip to Florence, Alabama to take on the University of North Alabama in a non-conference contest. Tip off is set for 5 p.m.
