HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bobcats outlasted the Falcons 3-2 in a hard-fought, five-set battle that went down to the wire and could have gone either way in the Peach Belt Conference opener for both teams.
Montevallo overcame a 10-3 deficit in the opening set on its way to a 25-20 win over the Bobcats in the frame. The Falcons ended the set with a commanding 22-10 run, with sophomore Kristy Bohan recording five of her team-high 17 kills while leading Montevallo to victory in the set.
The second set remained a tight battle throughout, with the Bobcats' 22-16 lead midway through the set accounting for the largest lead by either team in the frame. Back-to-back kills by junior Chandler Cooper late in the frame helped the Falcons push the Bobcats to their limit before Georgia College escaped with a 25-23 win in the set.
Montevallo opened the third set with a 16-5 run on their way to a 25-17 win in the frame. The Bobcats went on a 4-0 run midway through the set to trim the Falcons' lead to 22-15 before Bohan contributed three kills down the stretch to end any hopes of a comeback by Georgia College in the frame.
The fourth set featured a 6-2 run by the Bobcats and a 5-2 run by the Falcons early in the frame, but Georgia College managed to capture the set with a 25-17 win to tie the match at 2-2. A 10-5 run late in the frame helped the Bobcats push the match to a fifth set.
Georgia College opened the fifth and final set with a 3-0 run, but the Falcons fought back from the early deficit and a kill by Bohan gave Montevallo a 5-4 advantage, its first lead in the frame. The Falcons took a 11-9 lead on a service ace by Bohan, but the Bobcats were clutch down the stretch as they ended the match with a 6-2 run to clinch a 15-13 win in the final set.
