HOW IT HAPPENED
Armstrong State put pressure on the Falcons early, resulting in three first half goals for the Pirates. The visitors outshot the Falcons 29-7 in the match, with a 15-2 advantage in attempts on goal.
Taylor Valley scored the Pirates' first goal of the match in the 13th minute off a deflection. Jenny Allen finished off a corner kick by Casey Couch in the 18th minute to give Armstrong State a 2-0 lead. Asa Thorsen scored the final goal in the half in the 22nd minute off a feed from Valley.
Martha Trimbach scored the Pirates' final goal in the match off a feed from Taylor Snell in the 68th minute.
The Falcons had two scoring opportunities in the second half within the span of two minutes.
Junior Abbey West nearly duplicated her game-winning goal against Christian Brothers in the 61st minute when Montevallo goalkeeper Katie Pearson booted the ball deep into the Armstrong State defense and freshman Simone Nelson headed it forward to West, who missed putting it inside the right post by mere inches.
Nelson had another chance just 40 seconds later off a feed from sophomore Taylor Garrison, but her attempt was also just wide of the net.
