How it Happened

An evenly matched contest in regulation was decided by a penalty kick in the first overtime period following a foul inside the box.

Clayton State senior Avery Shepard planted the penalty kick into the right corner of the net as Montevallo keeper Yannic Horn dove in the opposite direction in anticipation of the kick in the 97th minute of the contest.

The Falcons outshot the Lakers 11-9 in the match, including a 7-3 advantage on shots on goal. Clayton State goalkeeper Viltsu Tuumi managed to keep all seven attempts out of the net.

A combined six cards were issued to the two teams, all of which came in the second half as the pressure mounted in the scoreless battle.
