HOW IT HAPPENED
Columbus State swept Montevallo 3-0 in a play-in match for the Peach Belt Conference Tournament, marking the second time the Cougars swept the Falcons this season.
Montevallo kept the margin close early in the opening set before Columbus State pulled away for a 25-13 win in the frame. A kill by junior Kristy Bohan trimmed the deficit to 10-9 before the Cougars went on a 15-4 run to end the set.
Columbus State raced out to a 7-0 lead early in the second set on its way to clinching a 25-17 win in the frame. The Falcons were able to cut the deficit to 14-10 following a pair of errors by the Cougars, but Montevallo couldn't get any closer down the stretch.
The Falcons jumped out to a 7-3 advantage early in the third set before the Cougars took control on their way to clinching the match with a 25-20 win in the frame. Bohan contributed a pair of kills and sophomore Shannon Dudley added another kill to help Montevallo build an early four-point lead. An attack error by the Cougars gave the Falcons a 17-14 lead midway through the frame before Columbus State ended the set with a 11-3 run.
STAT OF THE GAME
Senior Kristy Bohan led the Falcons with nine kills in the match and ended the season as the Peach Belt Conference leader with 452 kills on the season.
