HOW IT HAPPENED
- Montevallo scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to take a 2-0 lead when junior Dane Hutcheon led off with a single up the middle before scoring on a RBI double by senior Taylor Walker, who scored later in the frame on a RBI single by Dominic DeVille.
- Young Harris plated one run in the top of the third inning to trim the Falcons' lead to 2-1 when Zach Odom led off the frame with a solo home run.
- The Mountain Lions took a 3-2 lead in the top of the fifth inning on a two-run homer by Brett Westmoreland.
- Young Harris added two more runs in the top of the sixth inning to extend its lead to 5-2 on a pair of RBI doubles by Nick Sexton and Zach Wall.
- The Falcons started their comeback in the bottom of the ninth inning with a leadoff double by junior Matthew Furuto, who scored the first run in the inning on a RBI single by pinch hitter Collin Dupree.
- Freshman Tyler Krabbe, who reached on a single, trimmed the Mountain Lions' lead to one run on a RBI groundout by Hutcheon before Dupree scored the tying run on a passed ball.
- Senior Jeremy Hyde blasted a walk-off solo home run with one out in the bottom of the ninth inning to secure the victory for the Falcons.
- Sophomore Kale Latorre (1-2) earned the win in relief after striking out seven batters with one walk in 3 2/3 innings.
STAT OF THE DAY
Montevallo secured its second walk-off victory of the season in the win over the Mountain Lions, with the Falcons erasing a three-run deficit entering the bottom of the ninth inning on both occasions.
BEYOND THE NUMBERS
Senior Jeremy Hyde is now tied for fifth on the Peach Belt Conference home run leaderboard after blasting his 12th homer of the season.
The Falcons' pitching duo of senior Aron McRee and sophomore Kale Latorre combined to record 12 strikeouts, marking the eighth time this season Montevallo pitchers have combined for double-digit strikeouts in a game.
Montevallo inched one game closer to securing its spot in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament.
